Purpose of the job
The main responsibility is to carry out microbiological control and supervise the program that is applied to the production process, prepare raw material, water and product samples and carry out microbiological tests, record the results of all tests, and prepare reports on the results of the testing.
Microbiologist is involved in the identification of potential risks throughout the production process and in the preparing work of all preventive and corrective actions to control all risks related to quality and food safety and to ensure the effectiveness of the food protection system.
Microbiologist may provide on-the-job training for laboratory technicians and general hygiene and microbiology training for plant employees.
Job-related responsibilities:
Sampling and microbiological testing according to the microbiological sampling and testing program:
- Carrying out tests on municipal, well water and raw materials, as well as on finished products and packaging, in accordance with the company procedures in the Quality Control manual.
- Performing micro testing of production equipment and all surfaces involved in the production process. Taking air samples from the production area. Based on testing result data, evaluate the effectiveness of the cleanliness and sanitation program.
- Sterilizing the working environment and equipment, performs daily control checks on equipment, maintains and ensures the cleanliness of the laboratory and the integrity of the working equipment and methods. Ensures that work equipment stored in appropriate conditions, monitors daily micro results, and records colonies of micro-organisms counted at specific time points as specified in the incubation conditions.
- Verifying documentation and update all Quality Control Guideline documents related to microbiological control and monitor compliance with TCCC, CCHBC and local requirements.
- Preparing media. Regular monitor and inspection of the equipment used for microbiological testing (incubators, coolers, autoclave).
Formal qualification
- Higher education related to microbiology, biology, bioengineering or the food industry,
- Laboratory skills,
- Ability to read, write and speak English & Lithuanian,
- Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint),
- Accuracy and diligence in completing tasks at work, as well as in completing documents, providing necessary information.
